Getting to know the city a bit better

This morning we decided to get up early and walk into the plaza to join the 10:00 of walking tour of the city which was conducted by a lovely, knowledgeable, lady called Angela.

Our first stop was a cocoa factory, basically a chocolate making factory where we were given samples of pure chocolate to taste and you could watch the chocolate making process.
The next stop was the World of Alpaca. It was lovely. They had alpacas and llamas that we fed and we were told about the differences between the different breeds. Although they're both belong to the same family, they are totally different.

We then went in to see the processes from sorting to weaving. Everything is  handmade. We got go feel all the different quality of raw wool then we went to watch people actually weaving on a loom. We saw the how the products were dyed using natural minerals. Finally, we went to the shop which was too bloody expensive to even buy a tiny little scarf!
We then went around various places in the city and Angela explained the relevance and their historical importance to Arequipa.

Finally, we ended up on the roof terrace of one of the buildings above the plaza to get a clear view of the three volcanoes and also to take some photographs.
For lunch, we found a little café and had a fresh banana milkshake and a huge pancake.

We finished off the afternoon at the local market. It was starting to pack up so we will go back on 18th. We bought a great big bag of fruit for €6. Passion fruit, bananas, grapes, blueberries and manderins.

We decided to go back to the little cafe where we had lunch. Colin had fresh trout with potatoes and salad which cost a grand total of €6.
