Getting to know the city a bit better

Image
This morning we decided to get up early and walk into the plaza to join the 10:00 of walking tour of the city which was conducted by a lovely, knowledgeable, lady called Angela. Our first stop was a cocoa factory, basically a chocolate making factory where we were given samples of pure chocolate to taste and you could watch the chocolate making process. The next stop was the World of Alpaca. It was lovely. They had alpacas and llamas that we fed and we were told about the differences between the different breeds. Although they're both belong to the same family, they are totally different.  We then went in to see the processes from sorting to weaving. Everything is  handmade. We got go feel all the different quality of raw wool then we went to watch people actually weaving on a loom. We saw the how the products were dyed using natural minerals. Finally, we went to the shop which was too bloody expensive to even buy a tiny little scarf! ...

Navigating Nazca in style!

We arrived in Nazca and hit the ground running. We chose to spend a night here even though it wasn't one of Peruhop's scheduled stopovers it there was too much to see there and it would have been a shame not to experience everything this place has to offer. We knew there were going to be logistical issues trying to see everything as we only had 10 hours!! I'd looked at tours and we could only manage to visit 3 out of the 6 places on the list. I suggested a private taxi but didn't know where to start looking and we needed to be organised before we  crashed. We got off the bus just after 5pm and there was a tour place next door. Colin suggested we called in but I was knackered after a night with a couple of hours sleep the night before and I put up a bit of a protest. I just wanted to check in first. I saw sense and we called in. The guy was lovely. The guys bartered and bantered and struck a deal. We got a private guide for the following day and we were able to see every...

Nazca

We started the journey to Nazca this morning after I had less than 5 hours sleep, unlike Colin who's smart watch told him he'd had 10 hours. How, I don't know!! The hostel opposite had music blaring out until the early hours. We stopped off at a Pisco brewery for a tasting session, not realising we'd be tasting about a dozen. Colin was positively tipsy πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚  It was a delightful way to pass an hour     πŸ·πŸΉπŸΈπŸ₯ƒ Next stop is Nazca. The Nazca Lines in southern Peru are a group of pre-Columbian geoglyphs etched into desert sands. Covering an area of nearly 1,000 sq. kilometers, there are about 300 different figures, including animals and plants. Composed of over 10,000 lines, some of which measure 30 meters wide and stretch more than 9 kilometers, the figures are most visible from the air or nearby hilltops. Due to the cost and time constraints we chose to climb the 35 metre tower rather than do th...
